Kristina Nelson

Kristina Nelson joined the News 4 team in January 2013 and is excited to call Reno home. She can be seen every weekday anchoring the morning newscast. She comes from the San Francisco Bay Area by way of Eugene, Oregon.

She grew up in Piedmont, California, a suburb of San Francisco. Kristina attended the University of Southern California (Go Trojans!) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. While at USC she was a member of the women’s water polo team and won an NCAA Division 1 National Championship in 2004. She’s also a proud alumnae of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

After graduation, Kristina headed north to Coos Bay/North Bend, Oregon on the Oregon Coast where she took her first on-air news job with CBS affiliate KCBY-TV. There she wore many hats including anchor, reporter and producer. She even ran her own teleprompter and camera. Some of her favorite memories include covering the removal of the New Carissa shipwreck and reporting on President Bill Clinton’s trip to the coast during the 2008 presidential election.

After three years, Kristina was on the move again, this time to Eugene, Oregon aka Track Town USA. She worked as a multi-media journalist and fill-in weather anchor for CBS affiliate KVAL-TV for two and a half years. Kristina covered everything from the 2012 Olympic Track & Field Trials to busting a parking ticket trap and getting the City of Eugene to change its parking spot signage. She also won two awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for her feature news reporting and photojournalism.

When she’s not waking up early to bring you the news of the day, Kristina can be found exploring Reno and beyond. She loves to volunteer, check out new restaurants, hang out with her adopted Lhasa Apso, Willie Nelson, and work out. She’s completed two half marathons, six 10ks and is always training for the next race. If you see her around town, don’t hesitate to say hello!
