Position Summary:
The Controller is responsible for the oversight of financial staff and operational functions including the
implementation of financial plans, policies, and procedures, relationships with lending institutions and
financial community, maintenance of fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports.
Duties:
Directs and reviews statistical, budgetary, and accounting information for use in decision
making;
participates with the CFO in the development of short and long term financial policies,
procedures, and processes and ensures implementation by staff;
under the direction of the CFO, participates in formulating budgets and financial forecasts;
directs the compilation of data and periodic financial for analysis, dissemination and operating
reports in accordance with RSIC and statutory requirements;
ensures major capital expenditures follow appropriate approval procedures and budget
compliance;
review monthly general ledgers, investigate discrepancies and submit adjusted journal entries;
works with Staff Attorney to formulate contracts, agreements, and leases;
supervises maintenance of RSIC’s chart of accounts and cost codes; ensures accurate accounting
of all income and expenses;
maintains working knowledge of accounting regulations, generally accepted accounting
procedures, and tax issues; and
manages personnel including hiring, performance evaluations, corrective communication, and
work schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts or Sciences from an accredited college or university with a degree in
Accounting or Finance at time of hire;
at least five (5) years of professional experience in public accounting, at least three (3) of which
must have been in a supervisory capacity;
thorough understanding of GASB 34 and GAAP including accounting principles and practices as
evidenced in the interview process;
ability to successfully communicate both verbally and in writing in English;
demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, develop, and provide constructive feedback to subordinate
personnel as evidenced by prior supervisory experience;
ability to prepare concise and accurate records and reports as evidenced by prior work product
submitted prior to interview;
ability to prepare financial reports that require complex mathematical computations; and
ability to attend evening meetings as requested by the CFO and/or Tribal Council in either Reno
and/or Hungry Valley.
