WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Is your child's school meeting your standards? Is your student's work environment safe and productive? These are questions the Washoe County School District hopes to have answered through their annual climate survey.

The Washoe County School district is seeking input from parents, students and staff about the educational environment at each school.

“School climate has a strong influence on whether students achieve their educational goals,” said Paul LaMarca, WCSD’s chief school accountability officer. “Students, staff, and parents need to feel comfortable and safe in their schools. This is a crucial part of our ongoing efforts to address the learning needs of all students.”

Parents who have provided e-mail contact information to their schools will receive a the school climate survey by e-mail. Parents of elementary school students who did not provide an e-mail address will receive a paper copy of the survey that will be sent home from school with their children. Parents of middle and high school students who did not provide an e-mail address will receive a survey in the mail with a postage-paid envelope in which to return the survey. Each school also has a box in the front office where the surveys can be returned confidentially.

The parent survey will be available from Monday, April 23 through Monday, May 21. Gift cards donated by Wal-Mart will be raffled off for parents who complete the survey. Students in grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11 may complete the voluntary survey in their school’s computer lab from April 23 to June 1. School employees will receive a link to the survey through their e-mail between May 1 and June 1.

Here is an idea let the school staff (all of them) give feedback to the district or the school board Anonymously so they can get the real issues aired and not face retaliation
