Veteran funnywoman Joan Rivers has been rushed to hospital in New York after she stopped breathing during a medical procedure.

The comedienne, 81, was undergoing a procedure on her vocal cords at a clinic in the Big Apple on Thursday when the emergency occurred, according to TMZ.com.

She has been rushed to Mount Sinai hospital in Manhattan but no further details on her condition were available as WENN went to press.
