( & KRNV) Reno, Nev. - Alert ID, a free program that provides crucial information about criminal activity in the Truckee Meadows has joined forces with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office to keep residents safe.

"We just recently had the technology and expertise to pull all of this information out of the computer in a way that makes sense to someone at the other end," said Karen Burch, a Research and Development expert for the county. "They can get information about the most heinous homicide or graffiti in their neighborhood. It's about their quality of life in a neighborhood."

"It meets all of your specific needs," said Sheriff Mike Haley, who was instrumental in setting up the partnership with Alert ID. "You can get just the information you want."

Alert ID allows residents to type in the address of their home, workplace, or child's school-- just to name a few-- and instantly begin receiving specific information about criminal activity in the area. People who subscribe to the free service can communicate with their neighbors or with law enforcement to trade information about what they've seen and heard.
