Question:
From the Ask Joe file a question tonight from a viewer in Silver Springs out in Lyon County, and it's becoming a hot button issue in that area.
Michelle wrote in asking if Lyon County has the authority to force people to convert from their wells to a public water system ?

Answer:
I checked with Lyon County manager Jeff Page about this.  He says Lyon County does not have water utilities in Silver Springs.  There is a private water system called Silver Springs Mutual Water Company that provides service there. Page says the water company has been in existence for several decades.   He says they have a specific service area do not have authority to take over anyone's well.   Page says there have been a lot of rumors going around about this.  He says the county has addressed the rumors and they continue to surface.  But again, the county is not forcing anyone in Silver Springs to switch to the municipal system.
A complaint has been filed with the Nevada Attorney General against the water company by a group called the Silver Springs Community Water Protective Association.  It's a 49 page complaint addressing the concerns of some residents in the area.   If you'd like to find out more you can go to their website which is www.sscwpa.org.
