Question:
From the Ask Joe file a question from a viewer about Friday's school closure at Nancy Gomes Elementary School in Cold Springs .
Katie Muth wrote in asking why Nancy Gomes has had a strange smell for months and they just found out it was a gas leak ?  She  wants to know if anyone looked into this when complaints first came up ?

Answer:
Nancy Gomes was closed on Friday, December 6th because of a gas leak.   I asked the school district about the situation.
Victoria Campbell, the district spokeswoman told me the staff has been responding and actively investigating this situation for a while.   They've been trying to figure out whether it was a natural gas leak or exhaust from the boilers.
NV energy has also been helping out with the investigaiton.
The problem is even though there were reports,  they were not consistent and Campbell says at no time were there any dangerous levels that required closing the school.
Last week they did a pressure test that did indicate a gas leak and that's when the decision was made to close the school so crews could get to work and replace the entire gas line that runs under the school.  That work was done on Friday and all is back to normal now.
