Question:
From the Ask Joe file one of our viewers has a question about getting an eyesore cleaned up in her neighborhood.
Elizabeth from Silver Springs wrote in asking why is there no code inspector for Lyon County ?  She says it's been a year since she filed a complaint about a big mess next door and nothing has been cleaned up.

Answer:
Elizabeth I checked with Lyon County Manager Jeff Page about this.  He says the code enforcement position was eliminated recently because of budget cuts but you can still file a complaint and someone at the county will check it out.
You can find a form by logging on to the Lyon County website. Click on "Departments" and then "Code Enforcement."
Page says they will send out a letter to the property owner and about 85 percent of the time they do get compliance.
However, you need to keep in mind the county will address public health and nuisance violations.  If it's just a dirty yard with some junk piling up that may not rise to the level of a health or safety threat.    But your best bet is file a complaint and the county will take it from there even though they no  longer have a code enforcement officer per se.
