Question:
Ole Chavez in Douglas County wrote in asking if it's true the suspect in a recent shooting at Topaz Ranch Estates worked for the general improvement district there ?

Answer:
I checked with Larry Offenstein, the board chairman for the Topaz Ranch Estates General Improvement District.
He says yes, Gary "Buck" Wilson does work for the G-I-D as a field worker.
Wilson is accused of shooting someone last Thursday, then hiding from authorities who tracked him down the next day in the neighborhood.
Wilson is charged with attempted murder.
He has been employed by the G-I-D for several years and Offenstein, the board chairman, says he has been a very good employee during that time and he says they have not had any problems with him.
Wilson has been placed on leave from his job. The board will wait to let the legal process carry out before making any other decisions.
Offenstein says they do not do background checks on potential hires.  He says it is such a small community that if there is a problem with someone's background, they typically hear about it through word of mouth and he says that's why background checks are not needed.
