(November 29th, 2103 KRNV, Reno NV)
From the Ask Joe file a question from a viewer about the Reno's Rink on the River which just opened up.
Deb in Sparks wrote in asking about the prices for the downtown outdoor skating rink. She thinks they seem high. Deb wants to know if the rink is city owned or private and also are there any discounts available ?
Deb, the Rink on the River just opened for the season. The operating hours depend on the weather conditions but the rink is open until 11:00 on Friday November 29th.
According to the city's website prices are $7.50 for adults ages 13-54 and $5.50 for kids 3 through 12.
So there is a discount for children and also for seniors over 55.
Keep in mind there is a skate rental fee of $2.50 on top of those rates.
There are some discounts available if you buy a season pass.
The rink is owned and operated by the city of Reno. It costs the city roughly $170,000 to set up and operate it for the season. It is a popular venue but they do have to make sure they cover their costs.
There is one other discount option available. If you can get a group of 20 or more people together and make a reservation in advance, everyone in the group will receive free skate rentals. Again that's for groups of 20 or more.
