Bob Parker wrote in with a couple of comments about the company that installed the new parking kiosks in downtown Reno and he asked if they've ever installed this kind of parking meter system in other cities ?
The answer is no. I checked with Michele Anderson over at city hall and she says this was a pilot project between the city and the company, Curb system.
I also checked on the company's website and it describes the kiosks that have caused so many problems as "part of a brand new system." the company says the beauty of the system is it allows you to pay by credit card rather than requiring you to have enough spare change to fill a parking meter. They also tout their advanced bicycle security systems.
As of Wednesday the company says they finally have the kinks worked out so the system should now be operating more smoothly. Of course we'll be staying on top it to find out if that's the case.
