Sandi Olivas wrote in to say there's an old white house next to Highways 341 and 395 that's become an eyesore.
She says it looks like its finally being torn down and she's wondering if there are plans to develop that area at the base of Geiger Grade ?
I did some checking on this and it sounds like that house has been torn down. We went out to take a look and the lot is empty with just a backhoe on the site. The house was a landmark. It had been around since the 1890's but had been vacant for many years.
Don Jeppson, the director of Washoe County's Building and Safety Department says they received a complaint a few months ago from neighbors who were concerned about homeless people camping out in the house. And they were concerned that it posed a safety issue.
The County says the owner of the house obtained a demolition permit through the City.
A contractor was hired and the county told me today they planned to have the building removed by the end of the year, but we went to check it out and its already gone.
No word on what the future plans are for that site. Eventually the Southeast Connector road will tie-in to that area but the specifics have yet to be ironed out.
