Pamela Hemenway wrote in asking why there isn't a flashing arrow for the turn lane lane on Sparks Boulevard on to East Shadow Lane ?
Pamela says she has sat there for five minutes waiting with no oncoming traffic. She thinks motorists would appreciate a flashing yelllow turn light there.
I checked with Jon Ericson, the transportation manager for the city of Sparks.
I asked him about the intersection and whether a flashing turn arrow has been considered for drivers turning on to Shadow Lane.
Ericson says they have found that too many people have a hard time judging an opening in traffic when speeds exceed 35 miles per hour. As a result they feel installing a turn arrow would increase the chances of injury accidents.
Ericson says since we brought it up they will review traffic flows at that intersection to see if there are any changes that need to be made to make it more efficent for drivers.
