From the Ask Joe File a follow up to a recent question from a viewer about a road in South Reno that's blocked off.
The viewer wrote in asking why there's a locked gate blocking access to Desert Way at the end of Rio Wrangler Parkway in South Reno ? They are under the impresssion this is a public road and are concerned about why its gated off .
I mentioned last week the city of Reno is investigating the situation but I have some new information tonight.
I was told last week by Washoe County that it was someone with the neary Sage Hill Gun Club who put up the gate. However, the owner of the gun club called to let me know that's not the case. And I heard from the property owner, Corona Land Management. They told me they put up the gate to keep people from dumping their trash out in that area. So we've solved the mystery about who put up the gate, the question is can they ?
That road used to be designated as "presumed public" when it was under the county's jurisdiction. It was annexed into the city of Reno a few years ago, which is why city officials are now investigating. Is that gate legal ? And should the public have full access to that area ? That's what they are trying to figure out. I'll let you know when they come up with a decision...
