Jean in Reno wrote in asking if we could find out how much money was raised at the first annual Governor's Ball on October 27th. The event was a fundraiser for families and victims of two recent tragedies in Northern Nevada: The air race crash and the Carson City shooting spree.
I checked with the Governor's office but they did not have any information about how much money was raised at the event.
I also checked with Rich Crombie, one of the organizers of the dinner. Crombie says they just finished crunching the numbers and it turns out they raised $14,000 at the dinner, and that $14,000 was matched by the Grand Sierra Resort which hosted the event. So the grand total is $ 28,000. That money was distributed to two local groups, the Iheal community fund and Think Kindness Family Assistance. Iheal will distribute the money to families and victims of the IHOP shooting spree and Think Kindness will hand out the other portion to victims and families involved in the air races crash.
Crombie says they're pleased with the numbers and they've already booked a date for the 2nd annual Governor's Ball next year.
