From the Ask Joe File a question from a viewer tonight about a noise ordinance.
Lee in reno wrote in asking if the city is enforcing a law dealing with cars and excessive boom-boom sound systems ?
I talked to Commander Mac Venzon at the Reno Police Department. The city did pass an ordinance which makes it illegal to play extremely loud music from your car stereo.
The way the law reads it is a violation if the music or "amplified noise" can heard more than 25 feet away.
Its not an easy law to enforce and one of the challenges is the violation has to occur in the officer's presence. In other words they have to catch the violators in the act.
But since it went into effect in january of of 2011 Reno Police have issued 13 misdemeanor citations. If you do get cited It is a $130 dollar fine.
