M. Nilsson wrote in asking if the construction is truly finished on Interstate 80 in Sparks ? He thinks another lane might be needed between East Mccarran and Pyramid Way and wants to know if that will be added later on ?
I checked with Scott Magruder over at ndot and yes the project is essentially done. They're just doing a little touch up work.
As for the stretch between east mccarran and pyramid they are not able to widen that because of the way the nugget is built so close to the freeway there is simply not enough room to add another lane. That's why the freeway goes from three lanes in each direction down to two along that stretch and then back to three lanes from east mccarran to vista.
Altogether it was a 72 million dollar widening project which included widening and re-doing the pavement in an effort to make sure traffic flows as smoothly as possible.
