Didi Parr wrote in to say she lives in the Del Webb community near Mogul.  She wants to know why the train engineers have to blow their whistle when they travel through. Especially at 3:00 in the morning !

I checked with Aaron Hunt who works for the Union Pacific Railroad in Roseville.
He says the use of the horn is required by the Federal Railroad Administration as a safety measure, and its been that way for many years.
However there are some areas that are designated as quiet zones and Hunt says the railroad is always willing to talk with residents about issues like this and any concerns they might have.
Sometimes, depending on the jurisdiction, the city or county might have a say as well.
But it might be worth checking with the railroad. They've got their headquarters in Roseville and they'll be able to tell you how to go about requesting a quiet zone and if that's feasible.
