From the Ask Joe File a question from a viewer about city finances in Sparks.
Randall Grooms wrote in asking how many of the city's department heads are receiving raises this year ?
I checked with Adam Mayberry, the public information officer for the city of Sparks. Mayberry says there are only two department heads eligible for merit increases for this fiscal year.
The total amount would be about $6,700 according to the city.
Mayberry says they budget merit increases for department heads in the same way they do for any other employee. That is, only if they are not at the top of their salary range already and based upon their review date. Also, just because merit pay is included in the budget doesn't mean it will automatically be awarded. That's up to the person's supervisor. But they budget for it just in case.
While Mayberry did not disclose names, he says most of the top-earning department heads like the city manager are already at the top of their salary scale and so are not eligible for a raise.
