Dana Greenwood wrote in asking why was there a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new I-580 freeway when its not even open yet ? She says she's a little confused by that.
I checked with Scott Magruder over at NDOT about this.
He says there are a couple of reasons. One , the governor has a very busy schedule and because of that the event had to be planned well in advance.
Magruder also says the contractor told him they would be finished the first week of August which is when the ribbon cutting was scheduled. After they scheduled it and invited the governor and two former first ladies, the contractor then informed NDOT the road would not be ready to open then. But at that point, NDOT decided to go ahead and hold the ribbon cutting anyway.
By the way the Northbound lanes are scheduled to open Friday August 24th, but that is not set in stone, so we'll keep you posted.
