Larry Wilgus, a former inmate wants to know what the status of the audit is and when it will it be finished ?
I talked to Paul Townsend, the legislative auditor in Carson City who is heading up the prison audit.
By law he's not allowed to discuss the specifics of the audit while its in process but he said they are still on track to have it finished in time for the beginning of the legislative session so lawmakers can go over the results.
Townsend says its a very labor intensive process. They have four people working on the audit, traveling the state to visit the different prison sites and going through inmate computer files.
Townsend says the goal is to answer questions raised in our recent Fact Finder reports and legislative hearings about whether a computer glitch caused some inmates to have extra time added to their prison sentences.
The legislature convenes in february and again, Townsend says their work will be done by then.
