RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - A News 4 viewer who did not want her name used says her daughter attends Westergard Elementary School and she's concerned that there are multiple entrances into the school that are not locked. She wants to know why.
I called and talked to the principal , Michelle Bain. She assured me that they take every possible safety precaution at Westergard. She says all of the side doors are locked and if you want to get into the school you have to go through the front door which is watched by the office staff. Bain says this spring they plan to install an electronic entry system where you have to be buzzed in through the first set of doors, then pass through a second door to get into the school.
And she says they hold regular lock-down drills so the students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency. As a side note Bain says her last job was in Alaska, where guns are very prevalent so she has has a lot of experience dealing with these types of security issues.
