Carol Moss in Reno wrote in to say Reed High School students will be wearing uniforms this year.  The cost of a polo shirt is $20.   Carol wants to know if the school is making a profit on the sales of these uniforms ?

I checked with the school and the school district about this.  The shirts range in price from $13 to $19.
Reed High School principal Mary Vesco says the school is selling the shirts at cost to parents.  There is no mark-up and this is not a fundraising effort.
Students who qualify for free or reduced cost on lunches do get a $ 5 discount on each shirt.  There is also a program in place where parents can help sell shirts and they earn some credit toward the cost of the uniforms.
But again Vesco says parents are not being charged more than the school is paying for the shirts.
