A parent at Anderson Elementary School wrote in today saying the school gave out vouchers for Walmart but only some of the students received them. She wants to know who decided which students would get the vouchers ?
I checked with the school district and they say this was a program initiated through the Assistance League of Reno and Sparks to help students in need.
The Assistance League had 75 vouchers to give away and approached Anderson Elementary School saying they wanted to help out. The staff at Anderson then selected 75 students they felt were most in need of some new clothes and those students were the ones who received the vouchers.
There simply were not enough vouchers for every student to receive one but the district says they make every effort to ensure that the next time there is an outreach effort like this, the students who did not receive a voucher this time around will be first in line next time.
