Ed and Toni Waggoner wrote in asking about the progress on the Verdi Post Office which was damaged by vandalism. They want to know when its going to re-open ?
I talked to David Rupert with the Postal Service.
That building was damaged by an arson fire back on Christmas Day.
The suspect...Justin Bennett was also charged with firing shots into the sparks police department. He has pleaded not guilty and his trial is scheduled for February.
As for the post office...The Postal Service does not own the building but the owner is rebuilding it and the Postal Service will rent it out again once its done.
Work is underway and Rupert says they are hoping to be back in there and serving customers before the start of the Christmas season.
In the meantime , customers' p.o. boxes have been moved to the Peavine station seven miles away. So it has been a real inconvenience for a lot of people. But the repairs should be finished soon.
