From the Ask Joe file, a follow-up to what has been a frustrating situation for some homeowners out in Palamino Valley.

Catherine Delpizzo had written in, asking about a stretch of dirt road near her property that no one would take responsibility for. Neither NDOT, RTC, nor the local general improvement district would take responsibility.

She wanted to know why no one will pave it?

That dirt patch is a small stretch between Ironwood Road, which belongs to the general improvement district, and the Pyramid Highway, which belongs to the state.

RTC is planning to build a turn lane onto Ironwood, but they told News 4 on Tuesday that they still planned to leave that stretch unpaved. That is what had homeowners frustrated.

But Joe has some good news. After our story aired, RTC changed their stance and issued this statement, saying:

"RTC's engineering department has been looking into your question on the dirt portion of Ironwood. Upon closer review, we have determined the 12-foot unpaved section of Ironwood will be paved as part of this project."

RTC Spokesman Joe Harrington said it was always part of the plan to pave that stretch. But he said they simply overlooked that on Tuesday, when News 4 asked about it.

In any case, work will soon be getting underway and that "no man's land" dirt road will soon be paved, making for a smooth transition from Ironwood onto Pyramid Highway.
