Gary Bell wrote in to ask what exactly are those large concrete triangular shapes that adorn the freeway at I-580 and the new Meadowood Interchange ? He says he's puzzled and can't figure out what they'd be used for.
Several people have inquired abou this. They are indeed giant concrete triangles and they are generating a fair amount of curiosity.
I talked to Howard Reidle at the Regional Transportation Commission. The answer: They are light fixtures which will hold L-E-D accent lights. There are four of them, two on each side of the interchange.
The lights will be interchangeable so they can put blue ones in for the Wolfpack, or other color themes depending on the time of year.
By the way...R-T-C is encouraged on a project like this to spend three percent of the overall cost on aesthetics, and these light fixtures fall under that category.
