Mark Easter, who works in our creative services department here at the station asked this week about some wide posts installed next to i-80 near the Robb Drive exit. He wants to know what they are ?
I checked with Scott Magruder over at NDOT, he says the posts will be used to display some of the artwork that is part of the I-80 Design/Build project.
There are about 8 of those posts, a couple at Robb Drive and a couple more out the Vista exit in Sparks and a few in between.
The I-80 work that's going on is a 72-million dollar project, and several million is being spent on artwork and landscape enhancements. A little more than three percent. We're talking about federal highway funds here.
NDOT says its just a way to spice things up a bit and the posts you see will be used to display some of that artwork.
One other note , starting next week, (Sept. 24th - 29th ) NDOT will open up a third lane between Fourth Street and Keystone so there will be three lanes in each direction which should help the traffic flow along that stretch.
