Ralph Felices wrote in asking when the Meadowood Interchange project is going to actually be finished and he wants to know since its behind schedule, will the contractor have to pay a fine for taking so long to finish ?
Its been a long road, shall we say for the Meadowood Project which was supposed to be finished last September. It opened to traffic on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
There is still work to do however. I talked to Scott Magruder at NDOT. He says they need to finish the shoulders on each side of the highway and add lighting along that stretch. The plan is to be done by the end of March and then finish adding the landscaping by summer.
So they are getting there. But the project is clearly behind schedule. This is day 539 (January 30th) and they were supposed to be done in 463 days.
By law, the contractor, Meadow Valley Construction out of Las Vegas, can be fined $5,000 a day for every day the project drags on. Magruder said he's not sure if the state will seek the entire amount or work out some type of settlement when all is said and done.
