Question:
From the Ask Joe file one of our viewers has a question about a topic we covered recently, the electronic signs at the RTC RAPID bus stops.
Some viewers have complained that some of the electronic "next bus" display signs aren't operating properly.
Jay wrote in asking for an update on the effort to get the problem fixed.

Answer:
This problem was first detected in January of 2013, according to RTC.
Some of those signs, which tell riders when the next bus is coming, haven't been working because of problems charging the solar batteries during the winter when there is less sunlight to charge them.
Here's the update: RTC crews have been troubleshooting the system hoping to come up with a solution and find a way to get these solar powered signs to operate when there's not a lot of solar power available.
Crews are hoping to fix the problem by adjusting the angle of the solar panels and making some other modifications as well.
Right now they're focusing on the stop outside the Peppermill.   If they can fix that one, crews will then go about making the changes to the other five stops where they've had problems in hopes of getting those working.   So hopefully all of the signs will be in working order soon with minimal additional costs to fix the system.
