John Andrews wrote in asking about our recent story on the investigation into Lyon County Justice of the Peace Mike Fletcher. He wants to know why the county manager and human resources department are investigating the judge instead of the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline ?
I checked back with Lyon County Manager Jeff Page. He says they have turned their part of the investigation over to DPS, the State Department of Public Safety. Page says that is simply to avoid any conflict of interest.
In addition, I did confirm that the State Commission on Judicial Discipline is now investigating the actions of Justice of the Peace Mike Fletcher as they have now received a complaint.
Fletcher is accused of showing up to work drunk and pointing a gun at a fellow employee or employees.
The Commission on Judicial Discipline will look at whether Fletcher violated any ethics rules they do not have the power to file charges, but they can suspend or even remove a judge if they find evidence of wrongdoing.
It will be up to the Department of Public Safety to decide whether criminal charges should be filed in the case.
