Question:

Paul Jacobsen wrote in asking why the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority is not publicizing the names of the candidates for the CEO position ?   He says Brian Kulpin (with the airport) Told News 4's morning show the airport is not a publicly funded organization.   Paul wants to know if they receive any public funding ?

Answer:
I talked to airport spokesman Brian Kulpin about this.
He says the airport does not receive any public funding or tax support.  They are entirely self-suppported.  The airport revenue comes from airline fees, parking, leases and other sources.   For example the Hyatt across the street from the airport leases that land from the airport authority.
With that in mind the airport authority says they feel its better not to release the names of the finalists for the CEO job.  They feel it could hamper their search by discouraging people from applying for the position and they simply want to make sure they hire the best person possible for the job.
So that's the explanation. The search panel is expected to make its recommendation to the board on May 16th. But until then, the process is top secret.
