Fred Olesek wrote in saying he drove by the Plumas Street tennis courts on Monday night , it was 22 degrees, nobody was playing tennis but the lights were still on. Fred wants to know why they were on ?
The City of Reno has a contractor that oversees those tennis courts. The lights are set on a timer that allows the lights to be on from 4:30 until 10:00 at night. They can also be turned on by pushing a button so they are used as they are needed if its after normal operating hours.
Since we brought it up the contractor is going to check it out tonight just to make sure the timer is working properly.
It may seem like a waste of money to keep the lights on that late but Michele Anderson with the City says they have found keeping the lights on helps deter vandalism. The City says they appreciate it when people call them with questions or concerns like this, so they can check out the situation for themselves.
