Reno, NV. (mynews4.com) With our Class Act Award we hope to inspire students to make a difference in our community no matter how big or small.
This month our winner has proved giving to others is something she's pretty good at!
We first met 1st grader Abby Oliphant 10 years ago when she first won our Class Act Award in 2002. The 7 year old had donated her long locks to a friend battling cancer.
Today Oliphant is a senior at Reed High School and the chairman of community service projects there.
During the Caughlin fire, Abby and her classmates turned Reed High School into a drop off center for all kinds of donations for the victims, even though school was cancelled.
Through phone calls, facebook and emails Abby was able to organize a major effort within a few hours collecting truck loads of clothing, blankets and water to donate to the fire victims at the evacuation centers. Congratulations to Abby Oliphant a two time Class Act Award Winner!
