A middle school student is trying to improve her school's climate one good deed at a time and just recently we surprised her in orchestra class with News Four's Class Act award.
Billinghurst 8th grade student Mackenzie St. Cyr has started a project called "Be The Stone."
It began in 2009 with a Facebook page and an effort to do good deeds, that others would carry on.
Essentially, be the stone, that causes ripples of kindness to take the place of bullying and disrespect.
This spring she is planning a "Be the Stone" week at school and is hoping to talk to other schools about her ideas.
St. Cyr says during that week just a few good deeds can turn into many if students participate.
"I want kids to do 2-3 acts of kindness everyday and I just want them to make our environment here at school better because I know there's a lot of kids that are being put down, I want that to change!
If you would like to know more about Mackenzie's project "Be the Stone" and what she's been up to with her good deeds go to the facebook page. "Be the Stone".
Congratulations to Mackenzie St. Cyr, News Four's Class Act Award winner!
