A Bernice Matthews Elementary school teacher is always learning new ways to teach her students and because of her dedication... She is News 4's Excellence in Education award winner for the month of August.
Yesterday we surprised first grade teacher Sharon Stephenson during math class and she was overwhelmed with receiving the honor.
Mrs. Stephenson develops a relationship with the families of each of her students. Her mother taught at Bernice Mathews for years, too...she says its a special moment for her family and all teachers, alike.
Mrs. Stephenson said “I think all teachers feel like they work really hard for what they do every day and we don’t always get the recognition and I wish we could recognize every teacher.”
