A Sparks Middle School teacher never rests when it comes to her students and this month News 4 is honoring her with our Excellence in Education award.
Just before school got out for the summer evening anchor Shelby Sheehan stopped by to surprise 6th grade english teacher Diana Cox.
Cox has been teaching 6th grade english for many years in the district and says she can't imagine doing anything else!
Not only does she head up the english department at the middle school, she's worked hard to make sure some of her less fortunate students have a lot of opportunities.
She makes herself available at home for her students to call and even has created and funded a student store that kids can buy things with good grades as the commodity.
This past spring she headed up the effort to pay for a student to travel to Washington D.C.
Teaching has become a labor of love for many reasons and Cox says she can't imagine doing anything else!
Congratulations to Ms. Diana Cox, News 4's Excellence in Education award winner!
