A teacher at Galena High School has figured out the right formula when it comes to teaching math, and he has been named News 4's Excellence in Education Award Winner.
Evening anchor Shelby Sheehan recently surprised Dr. John Perrin during a geometry class at Galena.
Perrin says the key to teaching is figuring out different ways to teach the same subject, and what makes sense for one student may not for the next.
Perrin is the son of two teachers and has his doctorate in math education, but his attitude is probably just as important.
He says, " I try my best to be enthusiastic in the classroom and bring that positive energy in the classroom and if students see that I am interested in what I'm doing, it motivates them."
