Reno, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Charles Lundberg always loved working on classic cars, but the Marine can only supervise friends nowadays. He has a service related disability and isn't supposed to lift more than 10 pounds or even work. Until a few months ago he carried an even heavier weight saying Veteran Services delayed his disability pay.
“For two-and-a-half years I thought I was going to lose my house, I had to sell almost everything except my car to make payments,” he said.
News 4’s Fact Finder Team first introduced you to these problems a few months ago, and Wednesday, Senator Dean Heller took concerns like those straight to VA top officials in a congressional hearing.
“What do you need? do you need more individuals? Do you need more workers? What do you need to get this problem solved?” Heller said.
Although a recent Government Accountability Office audit said the VA needed more employees the department swears better technology is the answer as the number of claims increases. And while Washington works on ways to fix this, Lundberg hopes one day the process for helping veterans will go as fast as the sports cars he loves to repair.
