put safety locks on your guns. It is hard enough to teach the children since they aren't taught manners in most of the homes.

I want to know why New's 4 isn't publishing the names of the gun owners licensed? As a home owner I think it's with in our rights to know who in our neighborhood has what guns and how many. You report what Government employees make now report who own guns. Public information.

The reporter should of been arrested. What they did is called trespassing. Here is a story idea....go to the airport and try to sneak a weapon through TSA. Let us know when that story runs. HA! And after that - try to jump the fence at the airport.

I am appalled at this piece by a "news" channel. The chief should have arrested this idiot. Check NRS 393.400 and 393.410. Ben Briscoe was loitering, trespassing, and surreptitiously recording others without their knowledge. Since when are reporters above the law in order to make a story? This type of conduct is reprehensible.. you could have reported the story without breaking the law. Do a fact finder on this and hold your employees accountable!

KRNV, Whatever got your panties in a bunch over WCSD is I hope you can someday get the heck over it. Why do you spend so much of your time and energy trying to tear down the district rather than trying to help build it up? You "report" half-truths, lies, and outright fabrications each time you mention the school district to what purpose? To aggrandize yourself? To get back for some imagined slight in the past? Or is it just to try and put someone down? "Reporting" like this is the reason you're third in a three station market. Trying to fortify these schools on all levels to a "single entry / hence single exit" is ludicrous and a complete waste of money. Oh where have we heard that before when the topic of WCSD and money is concerned? Pay current staff to check all doors to make sure they remain LOCKED at all times when school is shut down for the day and once open for the day from the outside to any unwanted criminals or even visitors. As we seen, a locked door will not prevent any criminal crazy to gain entry as we have come to realize at Sandy Hook. But a locked door is a minimum. I like investing in gun safes to store protection at these school. Knowing how popular CCW permits are nowadays, I would be shocked if there is not one member of any current WCSD faculty or school police officer who would step up to the plate and at a minimum and take action to defend the students, staff, and school if called upon. Not everyone on school staff but one or more who is willing to qualify and train like police officers have to in the safe handling and shooting of firearms and useage when the time and need comes. This is not a 100 percent solution to solve a violent situation but it sure is a lot cheaper than making all these schools fenced with one way entry/exits. Oh and have an incentive for a school employee who is the safety person(s) except for police for they are already qualified. What I mean is this, 6% incentive pay increse perhaps all the time hourly to maintain firearm proficency and taining for the select staff who want to step up the plate. This will insure the proposed success of the my idea. Think about it and it sure is a lot better than spending millions to makes schools fenced in. The incentive is not new. For instance, spealized training that say police do come with extra pay to maintain training and specialty. Ask a K9 handler, a bomb squad or swat team member what this meams and they will tell you. It is called hazard duty pay.

What makes people think that single entry is safer? All that means is there is no escape if something bad happens. All the bad guy has to do is cover the single entry/exit with his machete, bomb, knife, gun or whatever. Single point of entry/exit is great if you want to run things like the military and have a strong force inside capable of defending the school. This is just mindlessness to placate parents who can't think.

I am suprised the police chief didn't provide recomendations on what kinds of weapons would be easily concealed, along with what kind of clothes a shooter should wear in otder not to be stopped. What's wrong with saying I need to look into it and get back to you. His response leads me to believe that in this day and age we need someone better qualified and more strategic thinking to protect our children. Thank you for such an excellent story, and revealing aggrevious failures and proving, it indeed starts at the top. It is not just about gangs anymore but total security. I have asked this question of the chief, and will be forwarding it to the superintendant as well.

Go to Washoe High School on 2nd St. and see how easy it is to get in and go wandering around, especially before school starts or after school ends when people come in to take the GED test. There is not a school police officer stationed at the school. Also, there is not a school speed zone of 15 mph. posted on 2nd. St. or the cross street during school hours.
