RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – News 4’s Fact Finder team is uncovering new information about American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money better known as stimulus funds which were sent to Washoe County back in 2009.
Washoe County created even more jobs than originally expected. In total now 198 people have been hired in Washoe County because of about $15 million in stimulus.
But a new internal report obtained by News 4 shows not all projects in Washoe County ended up employing people locally. In fact about a third of our 24 grants awarded created zero positions.
“Not all of the projects had job creation or had jobs s part of the budget,” Washoe County's Grant Administrator Gabrielle Enfield said.
She adds those projects were for training or to buy new technology for local programs and that money trickled down to a job somewhere - just not here.
And for the local jobs which were created, each one cost tax payers about 83 thousand dollars.
