Senior citizens often need a helping hand as they get older. This month, we honor one local senior who spends her time helping other seniors in the community. 72 -year old Shirley Barnett is our Jefferson Award winner for the month of August. Shirley helps out at the Sun Valley Senior Center five days a week, even though she has severe arthritis in her hands. Shirley helps out with bingo games and keeps the other seniors company. She even drives them when they need to be somewhere.
"You know, if they don't have a way to the doctor's office, I take them to the doctors or whatever. But I love doing it," Barnett told News 4.
She also helps out several times a week at local churches, something she is very proud of . Congratulations once again to Shirley Barnett, this month's winner of the Jefferson Award.
