Jefferson Award September 2010
Tim Jones believes the arts are a critical part of a healthy, vibrant community. More than a decade ago he and several other people spearheaded a unique art festival in downtown Reno known as Artown. The event has become a very popular event held every year during the month of July and helped give the downtown area a boost at a critical time.
"Over the years, new businesses sprouted up," Jones recalls. "The ones that were there stayed open longer. Condominiums, the whitewater park, its important for folks to remember that all of that stemmed from a single arts festival in 1996."
These days Jones is the president of the Nevada Arts Council, a group dedicated to improving education and participation in the arts. It is a labor of love for him. And while his work is not done, he takes great pride in what he's helped to accomplish the Reno area, by making the arts a centerpiece of what our community has to offer.
News 4 and Wells Fargo are proud to honor Tim Jones as our Jefferson Award winner for the month of September.
