It was a special surprise birthday celebration at one local elementary school today for one of our former Jefferson Award winners.  Dolores McKay, better known as Grandma Dee, has been volunteering at Bailey Charter School for 11 years.  News 4 honored her with the Jefferson Award in 2008 for her volunteer work at the school and on her 80th birthday the students and staff got together and gave her a big surprise party on the playground, complete with cards and cupcakes.  Needless to say Grandma Dee was pretty shocked !

"I just can't believe it.  It's just amazing.  Of course I love all these kids.  I love the school."  She said after getting surprised.

McKay says she has no plans to slow down now that she's turned 80.   She says as long as she can drive, she'll continue volunteering in the classroom at Bailey Charter School.
