NEW YORK (AP) — Newly-inaugurated New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is facing more questions about apparent traffic violations by his security team, which were captured on video and have sparked a citywide outcry.
The mayor deferred to the New York Police Department on Friday when asked about a video that showed his two-vehicle SUV caravan speeding, running stop signs and not signaling when changing lanes. The drivers are NYPD detectives.
Following a meeting with the mayor on Friday, Police Commissioner William Bratton told reporters he wasn't "overly concerned" about what he saw on the video.
The video aired Thursday on WCBS-TV, just two days after de Blasio released a plan that aims to eliminate all traffic fatalities.
