JERUSALEM (AP) — East Jerusalem has been the scene of clashes today between angry Palestinians and Israeli forces, after word came that a Palestinian teen had been abducted and killed.
The Palestinians say his burned body was found, hours after he disappeared, in a Jerusalem forest. Palestinians accuse Israelis of killing the teen in revenge for the deaths of three Israeli youths whose bodies were found Monday in the West Bank.
As news of his disappearance spread, hundreds of Palestinians in east Jerusalem torched train stations and hurled stones at police, who responded with tear gas and stun grenades.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is calling on all sides "not to take the law into their own hands."
The White House says the death is a "heinous murder," and it's calling on the perpetrators to be brought to justice. The Palestinian president is also demanding that Israel hold the killers accountable.
Meanwhile, strikes against Israel from the Gaza Strip continue. The Israelis say five mortar shells were launched today from Gaza. There had earlier been rocket fire that had been met with Israeli air strikes.
