(CNN) -- As a possible government shutdown looms, the approval rating for Congress is plummeting to historic lows.
According to a CNN/ORC international poll, just 10 percent of Americans say they approve of the job Congress is doing and 87 percent disapprove.
Both parties have also taken a hit. The Democratic Party has a 43 percent favorable rating, which is down nine percent from spring. The GOP rating edged down three points to 32 percent.
President Barack Obama's approval rating, 44-percent, has remained steady since earlier in the month.
The survey was conducted Friday through Sunday.
