CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State Senate Republican leaders are lining up behind Gov. Brian Sandoval's call to expand Medicaid eligibility for Nevada's poorest residents, while Democrats and advocates for the needy are taking a cautious stance until more details emerge.

Senate GOP leaders on Wednesday commended Sandoval's decision as a commitment to the health of all Nevadans and way to boost a critical sector of the state's economy.

But some Democrats say while they applaud the governor's direction, they want to know more details about his call to require Medicaid recipients to pay for part of their care.

They're also awaiting specifics on Sandoval's proposal to reduce payroll taxes to ease the burden on small businesses so they can afford to offer insurance coverage for workers.
