CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — As the Nevada Legislature convened, an Assembly member accused of threatening the Democratic leader was sworn in as part of an agreement in which he will take a leave of absence.
Democrat Steven Brooks of North Las Vegas took the oath of office Monday with the 42 members of the lower chamber.
Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick said details of the legislative leave may not be finalized until Tuesday, adding that the sticking point was how long Brooks would be away.
Brooks avoided media in the halls of the Legislature on Monday. When approached by reporters on the Assembly floor, he said, "Go talk to my speaker. It's her day, not mine."
The development came on opening day of the 77th Legislature, as legislative leaders urged bipartisanship and cooperation to tackle the state's problems.
