The Nevada Land Conservancy and Washoe County have partnered with Dry Creek Garden Company to provide free native grass seed for victims of the Washoe Fire.

The seed hand out will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, March 17, at the Dry Creek Garden facility located at 100 Highway 395 on the north end of Old Washoe City.

Residents will receive a bag of approximately 9000 square feet worth of native grass seed, enough for roughly one-sixth of an acre, along with instructions for hand broadcast seeding.

In addition, Dry Creek Nursery is offering each eligible homeowner free pansies for spring planting.
Proof of residency is required in order to receive the free seed. For further information, contact Lynda Nelson with the Nevada Land Conservancy at (775) 851-5180.

The seed was donated to the Nevada Land Conservancy through a grant from the Nevada Division of Forestry.

The Nevada Land Conservancy is currently coordinating fire restoration activities for both the November Caughlin Fire and January Washoe Fire with assistance from the Truckee River Fund, NV Energy and Wells Fargo Bank grant funding.

Donations for both the Washoe and Caughlin Fires are still being accepted through the Community Foundation of Western Nevada at www.cfwnv.org, or call (775)333-5499.
